Ladbrokes.com prepares for summer
of sport with new e-gaming infrastructure
Ladbrokes.com, the e-gaming division of Ladbrokes Limited,
has chosen Sun Microsystems to deploy new applications
to provide greater functionality and ease of use for its
global client base. The new architecture enables Ladbrokes
customers to place bets using just one account accessible
via different delivery channels; Sky TV, mobile phone,
Internet or in a Ladbrokes shop.
Since the introduction of the new technology, Ladbrokes.com
has seen its online account members exceed one million.
The multi-million pound deal with Sun is in partnership
with Repton, an accredited iForce Partner. The new infrastructure
has improved the customer experience, offering a faster,
and consistently reliable response whilst enabling Ladbrokes.com
to continue with its customer growth in the online environments.
Ladbrokes.com has purchased Sun hardware, including twin
Sun Fire(TM) 6800 server clusters for deployment in the
UK, a Sun Fire 6800 and Sun Fire 4800 server cluster for
deployment in Gibraltar, 24 Sun Fire V440 servers for
the application layer, ten Sun Fire V60x servers for the
web layer.
The server clusters for the UK and Gibraltar will act
as disaster recovery facilities for each processing centre.
These will guarantee Ladbrokes.com can continue running
seamlessly from either location if one of the centres
was to become unavailable.
In addition, Sun Microsystems will be providing a three
year platinum support package and enterprise service to
deploy spare parts and support facilities to Ladbrokes.com
in Gibraltar and the UK.
Steve Maxwell, director of e-gaming, Ladbrokes.com said,
“Our customers demand the highest levels of reliability,
availability and integrity when dealing with Ladbrokes.com
for e-gaming services. Ladbrokes.com is moving into a
new phase of its e-gaming business which enable rapid
deployment and scalable technology solutions. We chose
Sun because we knew it was able to meet our demanding
timescales and deliver the service as promised. The Grand
National has already seen a 50 per cent increase in the
number of customers placing bets with Ladbrokes.com and
with a busy sporting summer ahead it was imperative that
the technologies were in place to manage the needs of
our growing membership. ”
Leslie Stretch, vice president and managing director,
Sun Microsystems UK and Ireland, said. “With over
one million registered account holders, Ladbrokes.com
needed a platform that would provide a consistent customer
experience and which could be implemented in a very short
time frame, which is why it chose Sun. With both Euro
2004 and the Olympics coming up in the next few months,
Ladbrokes.com's IT infrastructure from Sun should comfortably
service each and every online bet.”
